We’re Not Just A Pharmacy!
A pharmacy is just a pharmacy. Somewhere to get your medications. Somewhere where they “put the pills from the big bottle, to the small bottle.” Somewhere to pick up your cough medicine, along with the chips in Aisle 3…. Right?!?
At Wellth, we set out to change the pharmacy experience. We offer a personalized approach to care. No two people are the same, and neither should your treatment plan. That last word – care – is also something we pride ourselves on here at Wellth. We take the time to get to know every one of our patients. The environment itself is also designed to be welcoming and invite you to stay a while. For example, at the pharmacy counter you will find stools to encourage you to sit down and discuss your health with the pharmacist (rather than get in and out as soon as possible). We are not your typical ‘fast food’ approach to health care… you deserve better!
In addition to excellent service and an inviting environment, we offer unique products and services that support you on your path to optimal wellness. In our retail space, you will find premium supplements and natural health products, healthy food and beverage options, natural beauty and skincare, and more! Some of our unique pharmacy services include:
- Specialty Compounding
- Medication Reviews & Targeted Private Consultations
- Smoking Cessation Counselling
Today we will shed some light on the first two services, but stay tuned – we will be outlining all of our pharmacy services and how they can help you (or a loved one!) in future blog posts.
Wellness+ is a medication synchronization program. If you take more than one medication, you understand the hassle of going to the pharmacy multiple times a month to get prescriptions, especially when a dose changes or a new medication is added. This can result in frustration and wasted time dealing with the pharmacy for transactional things like realizing you don’t have a refill or the pharmacy is out of stock.
This program will help to decrease the amount of time you spend with the pharmacy on things like this, and increase the amount of quality time you can spend talking to the pharmacist about factors which can help improve your health.
The pharmacy team will align your medications so they are all due on the same day. They will proactively manage your medications to ensure things like refills, drug coverage, and supply are taken care of before you are due. When things are ready, you can spend time to review everything with the pharmacist, one-on-one at the pharmacy, or via phone if you need delivery. Simplify & improve your experience!
We help people reduce the amount of medications they are taking. (Yup, you heard that right!)
What is “deprescribing” you ask? It is the process of withdrawing medications in attempt to improve patient outcomes. This could be reducing the dose or stopping a medication. Sometimes when stopping certain medications, you may experience symptoms of withdrawal or a rebound of your symptoms that you were taking the drug to treat. By slowly titrating down, we can minimize this risk!
We help people to deprescribe various types of medications. Some of the most common classes of medications include antidepressants, benzodiazepines (used for anxiety and sleep) and proton-pump inhibitors also known as PPIs (used to reduce stomach acid …. read more about why PPIs can be risky here: https://yourwellth.ca/2017/09/ppis-risk-vs-reward/).
Through specialty compounding, we can tailor-make doses and dosage forms (like liquids) that facilitate a slow and steady dose reduction of the medication to minimize the risk of withdrawal effects and maximize your chances of successfully getting off the drug. For example, we may make your medication into a liquid suspension, and titrate down by 10% per week. Our knowledgeable pharmacists will also meet with you regularly to assess your titration schedule, and suggest other strategies that may help manage your condition while you get off the drug.
